Middle Roman amphora produced in central Tunisia that reached Italy and southern France chiefly. Large, cylindrical body with solid spike that widens near base and broad, distinct shoulder; tall, truncoconical neck with rim outward thickened into a rectangular band; vertical loop handles, oval in section, in shape of ear. Bonifay has identified a variant with an S-shaped rim, cylindrical neck, and a slightly dumpy body with short spike; cf. Tripolitana 3. Typical Tunisian fabric: hard, granular, reddish or orange, with saline wash.
